2004-09-10 Branch builds

  • Fixed: Re-add UI for alternate stylesheets, with improvements. The status bar icon now only appears when the page actually has alternate stylesheets. You can now select alternate stylesheets using the keyboard (View > Page Style). The Page Style menu (but not the status bar menu) has a "No Style" option that removes all styles, including ones from style attributes and other HTML attributes. "No Style" persists, but alternate stylesheet selections do not persist unless the site uses JavaScript and cookies to persist them.
  • Fixed: 255654 - Re-add UI for Work Offline.
  • Fixed: 257308 - Visual indicators of site security appear for the wrong site.
  • Fixed: 157354 - Hide user:pass in location bar.
  • Fixed: 253046 - Enable the new default plugin (screenshots again).
  • Fixed: 257405 - [Linux] Use GTK2 native keybindings for input and textarea. This means Firefox no longer uses Emacs keybindings in text fields unless you set an pref in GTK2.
  • Fixed: 258487 - Add (hidden) pref for blocking popups from plugins.
  • Fixed: 255617 - Extension manager: Custom update.rdf ignored at installation of incompatible extension.
  • Fixed: 258123 - Extension manager: Cannot register own JavaScript Component with new interface.
  • Fixed: 258657 - Extension manager: Themes brought over from 0.9 profiles are not being disabled in 1.0.
  • Fixed: 258737 - Extension manager: Upgraded extension does not overlay UI.
  • Fixed: 258694 - Use Ctrl+K for search on all platforms (plus Ctrl+J on Linux, for consistency with 0.9, and Ctrl+E on Windows, for consistency with IE).

Now that’s what I like to hear. Fixing it, instead of sweeping it under the rug. Hope it lasts until the real 1.0.

Asa says today’s builds are release candidates for 1.0 Preview Release.

There were two sets of Windows and Mac builds today. Asa linked to the earlier builds; I linked to the later builds.

“Your choice now persists until you go to a page that doesn’t have the same stylesheet choices.”

That doesn’t work for me. Only my selection between No Style or the stylesheet persists (which is nice), but if I select an alternate style it will still forget which each time I browse to a different page.

I quote from a bug (fantasai writes):

“The “No Style” option persists the same way Text Zoom does. You can’t apply a “is the style sheet still there” check for it because it also affects pages without a style sheet.

83663 [Alternate style sheet persistence] is not going to be fixed on the branch. It has dependencies on some Gecko API changes that Boris is working on, and it will require significant C++ work.”

So that’s how it is. Description in the summary is not correct.

Thanks, Grauw. I fixed the description in this post and in Bigger Picture.

I now have to say a dirty word, because I’ve just found out that, AGAIN, extensions have been made incompatible!
