I looked in about:config and found that browser.throbber.url had automagically changed to some chrome url that did nothing for the throbber. I could never reproduce it or figure out if it was the browser or an extension yadda yadda, so I never wrote a bug for it. From my understanding 242856 has only been resolved. They backed out the changes that had fixed it. Bill, thanks. I might have to write one up then.
